Product description
This coffee is a blend of the Brazilian (66%) and Ethiopian (33%) coffees to create a flavourful Espresso roast, perfect with or without your milk of choice. The rich chocolate fudge base, and hazelnut praline carry beautifully through milk and pair nicely with the rich red apple when enjoyed as an espresso or long black.
The farm, Bom Jesus, in Alta Mogiana in São Paulo owned by Flavia & Gabriel Oliveira operates at an altitude of 1250 meters and benefits from a favourable climate, yielding coffees with creamy body, medium acidity, and caramel sweetness. Flavia and Gabriel's families have been producing coffee for almost 150 years. They employ sustainable methods for the best results such as preservation of existing forests, protecting water sources, planting trees to protect from soil erosion, mechanical weed control, the water used for processing is recycled and then treated to ensure it is safe to return to the ecosystem and coffee pulp is used as fertiliser. These practices help ensure minimal environmental impact, allowing for the long-term health of both the land and the coffee. Their dedication and sustainable practices extend to employee welfare and the local community too, it’s not hard to see why they are award winners for sustainable farming in Brazil as well as being Rainforest Alliance Certified.
The coffee sourced from Harowacho village in Ethiopia’s Guji Zone is grown at high altitudes (1900-2300 MASL), benefiting from the area's rich natural environment, including the Seboba River and Quto Mountain. Bisrat Melaku, the founder, and around 50 local farmers deliver ripe hand picked cherries to the Harsu Sala washing station. As many as 500 people are employed during harvest, to ensure cherries are picked at the optimum time. Once delivered to the washing station they undergo a meticulous sorting and washing process before drying on African raised beds for 5-8 days until they reach the desired moisture level of 11%.
These coffees have been selected through Minas Hill (Brazil) and Utopia (Ethiopia). Whilst working on a larger and smaller scale respectively, they are both committed to sustainability, ethical sourcing, and high-quality beans. Eco-friendly farming methods and fair trade practices are prioritised, fostering community development and improving livelihoods.
