How Long Does Coffee Stay Fresh After Roasting?

Our coffee is best enjoyed within 30 days of its roast date. While it’s tempting to drink it right away, we recommend waiting a few days to let the coffee rest. We find the sweet spot is between 5 and 30 days after roasting.

What's the Best Way to Store My Coffee?

To keep your coffee fresh, we package it in a 500ml aluminium can, which is ideal because it blocks out light completely. Paired with our reusable silicone lid, the coffee is protected from air and moisture, ensuring it stays fresh for longer. This packaging offers an excellent solution for preserving the quality and flavour of your coffee. Plus, keep it out of the fridge!

When do you roast?

We roast every week in small 1kg batches, in limited quantities. If a large order is required be sure to get in touch in advance to avoid disappointment.

Can I visit the roastery?

We are closed to the public at the moment but watch this space!

Where can I find your coffee?

On our website 24/7, at the Margaret River Farmers Market on select weekends – check our socials for dates.

I live in Margaret River, how does free local delivery work?

Delivery is offered once a week on Thursdays with no minimum order amount. The cut off for local orders is 12pm Wednesday, if you order after this time you will be on the following weeks delivery route. Please let us know in the notes at checkout where you would like your order left and ensure there is safe access. This service is currently only available for Margaret River, Prevelly, Witchcliffe and Cowaramup. If you are unsure shoot us a message.

Oh no, I lost my reusable silicone lid

If you’re a new customer you’ll automatically get a lid with your first order. If you need a new one for whatever reason just pop it in the notes section at checkout and we’ll get another one to you. Make sure you give the new lids a quick wash in warm soapy water, rinse and dry thoroughly before use.

Why is coffee getting more expensive?

Several factors have contributed to the rise in coffee prices including inflation, increased production costs, climate change affecting crop yield, water availability, disease pressure and unpredictable weather, supply chain challenges, and greater consumer demand. Its getting harder and more expensive to get our hands on the good stuff.

Specialty coffee farmers are in most cases not paid enough to do the work, so they replace their coffee with other more financially viable crops, or if they do continue to farm, the work is so tough they discourage the younger generation from getting into what is often a family business. This paints a pretty bleak picture for the future of our favourite beverage. Quality coffee is in trouble, so we choose to pay a little more now for long term good. We look for farms practising sustainability, supporting their work force and their communities, and only purchase through trusted importers that do the same. We’ve got two options – we can pay more now for great coffee, or pay more later for bad coffee – vote with your dollars people!

What are you doing to reduce your environmental impact?

We are big fans of the natural environment and all the beauty and support it provides, and we look to reduce our footprint any way we can. At the Roastery we choose to supply our coffee beans in aluminium cans – aluminium is endlessly recyclable. Unlike many other materials, it can be recycled over and over again without losing its properties or quality. Recycling aluminium uses about 95% less energy compared to producing new aluminium from raw materials, making it highly sustainable. This closed-loop recycling process reduces the need for mining new aluminium, decreases greenhouse gas emissions, and conserves natural resources. Aluminum's recyclability makes it a valuable material in a circular economy. It wasn’t a hard choice especially when the alternative is soft plastic headed straight for landfill!

Our shipping boxes are comprised of 99.9% recycled paper, making them recyclable and compostable, and our labels and carry bags are also made from FSC certified paper and are recyclable and compostable.

Chaff (the silverskin that dislodges from the bean during roasting) is rich in nitrogen and a great addition to your compost. The hessian bags and green pro liners that the raw beans come in are also super handy, we use these in our garden too. If you’d like us to put any of these aside for you give us a shout!

We are currently operating on electricity alone and have plans to move this to solar – watch this space.

Outside of the roastery we reduce our footprint by working with importers and farms committed to bettering the environment and the livelihood of those working at origin and their communities. You can hear more about why we selected specific farms in the product descriptions.
